ABOUT

Spring Awakening forms part of SID Magazine’s biannual print series, continuing the publication’s collaborative approach to contemporary menswear, fashion storytelling and stylish subversion. Photographed in Los Angeles by Wolfgang Zac, the issue features Kush Banda in Mister Green and vintage Louis Vuitton, with styling by Sylvester Yiu and grooming by Hailey Adickes. Across the issue, SID’s world of fashion, music, youth culture and print comes together in a visual language that feels instinctive, restless and alive.

APPROACH

The design direction for Spring Awakening plays with the feeling of emergence: the fog clearing, the season shifting, something new beginning to surface. Inspired by the visual research around Smells Like Teen Spirit, the issue draws on the energy of subcultural print, music ephemera and adolescent rebellion. Black and white photography is charged with acidic green, handwritten typography and small graphic interruptions, creating a visual language that feels raw and restless.

Inspired by Smells Like Teen Spirit and the energy of subcultural ephemera, the layouts sit somewhere between fashion magazine, zine and music poster. The result is a cover that feels tactile, graphic and slightly unruly, designed to sit somewhere between fashion editorial, music poster and printed artefact.
